Optomap Retinal Scan

In our continued efforts to bring the most advanced technology and highest level of care to our patients, Lafayette Eye Associates has integrated an additional state-of-the-art digital scanning technology as part of its standard of care.

A number of eye problem can develop without warning and progress while showing no noticeable symptoms. In the earliest stages of many diseases, you might not notice any progression or any change in your vision.  Diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal tears or detachments, as well as other system health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure, can be detected with a thorough examination of the retina (the part of the eye that catches the image of what you are looking at similar to the film in a camera).

The Optomap scan allows us to evaluate and document the retina and the optic nerve as part of your permanent record, allowing for much earlier and better detection of disease. This scan serves as a baseline "snapshot" for comparison in future exams.
